A partir dos três anos, as crianças já começam a ter influência na decisão de compra dos pais. Alguns estudos apontam que esta influência cresce cada vez mais, em relação às gerações passadas, e uma pesquisa realizada pela TNS/InterScience em 2003, confirma que as crianças brasileiras influenciam 80% das decisões de compra de uma família. Por isso, devemos pensar não só na experiência dos pais, mas também das crianças.
Em uma loja infantil, a exposição dos produtos deve ser feita em vários níveis, para atrair olhares de diferentes alturas. Itens decorativos, como mascotes e brinquedos podem ser utilizados com cuidado, para não tirar a atenção dos produtos, que devem ser os protagonistas do espaço. Os provadores devem ser espaçosos, permitindo que duas pessoas ocupem-no simultaneamente, afinal, geralmente vai ser ocupado pelo pai ou mãe e seu filho.
Um ambiente com cores vibrantes é mais assertivo para chamar atenção dos pequenos. Além disso, para setores de roupas e calçados, deve-se pensar em estratégias para tornar experiência de compra mais atrativa para as crianças. Afinal, crianças geralmente não gostam de perder seu precioso tempo de brincar para ir às compras. Elementos que façam da compra uma brincadeira serão muito bem vindos, como passarelas, penteadeiras e cenários criativos.
Em ambientes criados para esta faixa etária, segurança é fundamental. É importante evitar vidros e materiais frágeis, preferindo opções resistentes. Os móveis devem possuir acabamentos arredondados, evitando que descuidos não se tornem acidentes, e os pais possam ficar tranquilos enquanto estão sendo atendidos. Um projeto arquitetônico comercial para o público infantil deve até mesmo prever tomadas protegidas.
