As tintas dividem-se em duas categorias gerais: tintas à base de água e tintas à base de óleo. As tintas a base de água tem como vantagens a secagem rápida, baixo nível de emissões tóxicas, limpeza e aplicação fácil. Além disso, em geral, são mais resistentes a rachaduras e tendem a não perderem a cor ou ficar amareladas na exposição ao sol.
Por sua vez, tintas à base de óleo costumam apresentar acabamento mais brilhoso, mais emissão de tóxicos e sua aplicação é um pouco mais difícil e demorada. No entanto, apresentam maior durabilidade e são ótimas para aplicar em ambientes úmidos, como banheiros e cozinhas.
Vale lembrar que água e óleo não se misturam. Por isso, se for aplicar uma tinta à base de água sobre uma superfície pintada anteriormente com tinta à base de óleo, é necessário lixar a superfície e deixá-la limpa e sem brilho, para que a nova tinta tenha aderência. Vamos citar aqui algumas das tintas mais utilizadas.

Tinta Acrílica: tinta a base de água, é a opção mais utilizada no mercado. Possui resinas que a tornam resistente à umidade, e pode ser usada em ambientes internos e externos, e também pode ser lavada. Apresenta opção de acabamento fosco, semi brilho ou acetinado e brilhante. Para áreas de grande tráfego existem versões específicas conhecidas como “superlaváveis”, que formam um filme resistente e aderem menos a sujeira, facilitando a limpeza.
Tinta Látex PVA: também a base de água, apresenta baixa resistência à umidade, por isso seu uso é indicado apenas para interiores. Apresentam ótima cobertura, secagem rápida e pouco odor. É fácil de aplicar, de limpar o material utilizado e eventuais respingos. Na parte de interiores para ambientes secos, é a mais utilizada, principalmente no teto. Apresenta apenas a opção de acabamento fosco.
Tinta emborrachada: essa tinta possui as propriedades de redução térmica e acústica do ambiente, além de alta resistência e flexibilidade. Outras características são a capacidade de dilatação e retração conforme ocorrer na parede em que está aplicada.
Tinta epóxi: essa tinta pode ser encontrada à base de água ou solvente. A versão à base de solvente apresenta acabamento brilhoso e é muito resistente a abrasão e a produtos químicos. Indicada para superfícies que ficam em contato direto com água, como caixas d’água e banheiras, ou em superfícies que precisam de alta resistência, como pisos de garagem, salas comerciais e indústrias. Por sua vez, a versão à base d’água possui as opções de acabamento brilhante ou acetinado. Tem ótima aderência a superfícies lisas e também boa resistência a umidade. É indicada para ser utilizada sobre azulejos e pastilhas.
Tinta esmalte: em sua maioria é produzido à base de óleo, mas já encontramos no mercado algumas opções à base de água. Caracteriza-se pelo odor forte e secagem demorada. Cria uma película sobre a superfície e geralmente não é utilizada em paredes, mas sim em ferro ou madeira. As versões à base de água além de serem ecologicamente melhores, possuem secagem mais rápida, baixo odor e não amarelam com o passar do tempo.

Antes de iniciar a pintura, é necessário preparar a superfície, deixando ela livre de poeiras, sujeira ou mofo. Muitas vezes isso pode ser feito apenas com pano úmido. Espere secar bem para iniciar. Pequenas imperfeições devem ser corrigidas com massa corrida antes da pintura.
Existem no mercado também alguns produtos específicos para plicar antes da pintura, chamados primers. Eles podem ter a função de corrigir imperfeições, aumentar a durabilidade da pintura, ou mesmo proteger a superfície de ações corrosivas. O primer adequado deve ser escolhido de acordo com o material a ser pintado e com as condições a que ele ficará exposto.
Antes de inciar, misture bem a tinta a ser utilizada, para garantir que a substância esteja uniforme. Siga as instruções de diluição e tempo entre demãos das embalagens, pois isso pode variar de um fabricante para outro. Evite realizar a pintura em dias muito úmidos e chuvosos, mesmo se tratando de pinturas internas.

Fosco: é a opção menos resistente à umidade e limpeza, mas é a que mais disfarça as imperfeições. É a mais utilizada em ambientes internos secos, como quartos, salas e escritórios.
Semi brilho ou acetinado: é a opção que equilibra uma resistência média a umidade e disfarça um pouco as imperfeições. Ainda que seja nomeada como “semi-brilho”, não dá sensação de ser brilhosa e reflete pouco a luz.
Brilhante: se trata da opção mais resistência à umidade, sendo ideal para cozinhas e banheiros. No entanto, é a que mais ressalta imperfeições, por isso é importante verificar se a parede tem um bom acabamento antes de aplicá-la. Reflete mais a luz, devido ao seu brilho.

As texturas ajudam a corrigir algumas imperfeições, que são mais difíceis de resolver e que poderiam comprometer o resultado da pintura, e ainda trazem um diferencial para o ambiente. Por exigirem uma técnica mais avançada, muitas vezes é preferível contratar mão de obra especializada para realizar, ou estudar mais aprofundadamente como realizar a textura desejada, caso deseje se aventurar.
Um item que vai permitir fazer vários tipos de textura em sua parede é a massa de textura. Ela é aplicada depois de ter passado o selante na parede. Em geral, sua cor é branca, mas você pode encontrá-la em outras cores. Com ela você pode produzir desenhos em alto-relevo com formas circulares em sua parede, linhas horizontais e verticais, entre outros desenhos. Fora a massa, a pintura realizada com esponjas ou rolos específicos também produz textura, e hoje existem ainda tintas texturizadas. Seguem alguns tipos de textura abaixo:

A escolha das cores não é tarefa fácil, pois existem inúmeras possibilidades no mercado. É importante pensar quais as sensações você deseja trazer para o ambiente – para entender mais você pode pesquisar sobre a psicologia das cores. Combine as cores também com os demais elementos e texturas do ambiente, para ter harmonia e não deixar o espaço visualmente carregado.
